Like most other places stateside, the weather’s been pretty wacky in San Diego lately. So when the weather warmed up and the skies cleared up, we took the chance to make our first trip to the zoo in months.
I’ve been to quite a few zoos, some good, some not so much, but the San Diego Zoo is definitely the best one I’ve visited. It’s large and has a great diversity of animals, many of which are rescued from the wild, where they were in danger of poaching or had severe medical conditions that needed treatment.
Like most Zoos, it’s a great place to take the family to spend a day out and about. However, tickets run on the steep side, at about $50 a person, so if you live nearby and think you might make more than one trip in a year, getting a membership will definitely save you some money in the long run.
Afterwards, definitely check out Balboa Park. One of the largest outdoor cultural centers in the country, Balboa offers a ton to do. We recommend the San Diego Museum of Art and their bar, Panama 66. The kitchen at Panama is currently undergoing a renovation, but they still over cold sandwiches, salads, and our go to, a delicious cheese board. If you happen to be there on a Wednesday or Saturday, they typically have live music as well.
Does anybody else have favorite sunny day hang out to share? We’re always looking for new places to check out!
