Drink: Peach Gin Fizz

I can’t believe it is September already! Geez, the second half of the year is just flying by. But on the plus side it’s Labor Day weekend! We are giving ourselves a four day weekend, which means lots of outdoor activities. However the heat in San Diego is something fierce this weekend, upper 80’s and 90’s all weekend. I know what you’re thinking thats not very hot, but it is for San Diego.

With the end of summer nearing, although the weather here does not really start to change until mid October. Fall is approaching, so we are soaking up all the fresh fruit we can get our hands on. I pick up some fresh California peaches. Peaches are my favorite fruit this time of year. I can eat them all day long and still want more. So naturally I went on the search for a peach cocktail recipe. I stumbled across a recipe called Peach Gin Fizz. It sounded pretty good as is, but I rarely follow recipes verbatim, so I put my own twist on it.

Josh and I drink beer most of the time, but we can also appreciate a good cocktail from time to time. Usually when I’m in this mood I reach for the ever trusty Gin and Tonic. This is a great twist for those that love a good G&T. My go to gin at the moment has been Hendricks, it has that flowery, herbal taste that is characteristic in gin and is surprisingly smooth for the price, making it perfect for a minimalist cocktail such as the Gin and Tonic.

To make two cocktails you will need two peaches, two limes, three ounces of gin, and tonic water. Take the peaches and take the skin off, then place then in a blender. We have a Ninja Blender with the individual cup smoothie option. Which works out nicely because you are only blending a small amount. Blend the peaches until they are in a puree form. Take the puree out and run the it through a small mesh strainer a few times to get the lumps out.

Once you have your peach puree combine with the lime juice and gin in a cocktail shaker with ice.
