Siena, Italy | Part 1

How are we in August already? These summer months have pasted by so quickly with Josh and I moving into our house, which has come with loads of unpack and decorating that I have spent most of this month on. There is still more to do as well! July was quite the crazy month for us as well, we got our first Italian flat tire from a pot hole which lead us down rabbit hole of getting two more flats (it was a mess!). Once we got our car settled the internet went out and didn’t get fixed for almost two weeks. So our short vacation came at the perfect time to take a break from daily life. Josh and I took a small break from decorating our house to celebrate Josh’s birthday last month. We had been discussing where we wanted to take our first visit out of Naples to be and Josh decided on Siena. We couldn’t have found a better city to visit for our first trip.

We first heard of Siena from one of Josh’s former co-workers in Nashville, and we are so glad too! Siena is also mention in many travel guide books (which we have a small collection of now). This quaint little medieval city is about two miles from end to end, surrounded by walls, and has beautiful views around every corner. After checking into our hotel, we started wandering around Siena. One of the first places that we walked to was the Duomo, or Siena Cathedral, which was built in the 12th Century and is still used today for Catholic services weekly.

The Duomo is the main attraction within Siena, and we both understand why after walking into inside the Cathedral. There are five spaces that you can tour that are attached the Duomo and we recommend all of the them. This is the first Church that Josh and I have visited in Europe and we can’t wait to start visiting more. As someone that comes from a family of architects as well as studying going to art school, walking into building like this as been a dream of mine for about a decade.

After visiting the Duomo, Josh and I spent the rest of the day wandering around the streets of Siena. There are so many cute stores located around the main square, Piazzo del Campo, where we stocked up on so many goods and great food! The main town area of Siena is small so we spent a lot of time walking up and down different streets, exploring every street that we could.

The views of this city is what Josh and I feel in love with, Josh and I are already thinking about taking a yearly trip here while we’re living in Europe. Siena is great if you want a bit more of relaxing, not to mention there are so many great little towns around Siena to tour too! Which we are adding to our to-do list on our next trip to Tuscany.
